SUV collides with Denver fire truck, knocks over fire hydrant

DENVER -- A Denver fire truck was struck by an SUV in Denver's Capitol Hill neighborhood early Friday morning.

The accident at East Ninth Avenue and Washington Street occurred just after 2 a.m. The fire truck was going eastbound on Ninth to a structure fire when the SUV, traveling southbound on Washington, hit the truck in the intersection and stopped on a hydrant, spilling water into the street.

The driver of the SUV was transported to a hospital for precautionary reasons and did not believe to have serious injuries. No firefighters were injured.

The driver's side door of the fire truck ended up on the street and there was damage to the front end as well.

The intersection was cleared by 5 a.m.
