JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — On Saturday, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the name of the school bus driver who was killed in an auto-pedestrian accident on U.S. 285 near Windy Point Friday.

The coroner identified the victim as 63-year-old John Garland Jr. of Conifer.

A Colorado State Patrol spokesperson said Garland was out of his bus when another car hit him on the roadway.

There were no students on the bus when the incident occurred and troopers did not identify the accident as a hit-and-run.

On Friday, there were reports of a half dozen vehicles involved in a pileup at that location.

U.S. 285 was closed in both directions at Windy Point until crews were able to reopen it at about 4:30 p.m.
