Explosion ignites 2-alarm fire in Aurora, 2 injured

AURORA, Colo. — Aurora firefighters responded to a 2-alarm fire at an apartment building Tuesday afternoon that injured two workers.

The fire was reported around 1 p.m. at an apartment complex on South Galena Street near E. Idaho Place, said the Aurora Fire Department in a tweet.

Firefighters were able to get control of the fire in under 30 minutes.

Aurora Fire said two workers were taken to the hospital. The nature of their injuries was not disclosed.

Video from SKYFOX showed the fire appeared to have happened in top floor of a two-floor building.  A window and portions of the roof appeared to have burned.

The fire department says an explosion from a gas leak started the fire. Investigators didn’t know what caused the explosion. Damage to the building was estimated at $100,000.
