LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A Littleton man pleaded guilty Monday to killing a teen in a hit-and-run crash, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office reported.

Derrick Lawrence Fransua, 22, was thought to be the driver of a PT Cruiser that hit the victim on July 20, 2013, in a crosswalk near South Kipling Street and West Asbury Avenue in Lakewood.

Gerard Julien, 15, died of his injuries.

Prosecutors allege that Fransua was driving the car as part of a street race, and that he fled the scene. He told his parents that he struck a deer, Colorado State Patrol investigators said.

Fransua pleaded guilty to Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death. He faces up to 24 years in prison.
