DENVER — Two snowmobilers were caught in a large avalanche near Kebler Pass, west of Crested Butte Monday.

One of them was buried and died. The other was partially buried and survived.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center says the slide is 500 to 600 feet wide and more than three feet deep.

An Avalanche Warning was issued for the central and northern Colorado mountains due to high avalanche danger. The area where the slide happened is included in the warning area.

Experts at the CAIC plan to visit the site Tuesday.
