DENVER — Several feet of freezing water broke through an ice dam Thursday afternoon on the Big Thompson River next to U.S. 34.

A Colorado Department of Transportation worker shot video as the ice dam broke apart and the water in the river started rushing downstream.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office briefly issued a warning to residents in case the water would have flowed out of its banks.

But that didn’t happen and there were no problems reported.
