DENVER -- The skies cleared and the snow started melting around metro Denver Tuesday, as the folks in the mountains prepared for a major snowstorm.

The afternoon commute Tuesday was much easier than the same drive 24 hours earlier even though it remained cold. That cold is expected to dissipate on Wednesday, with temperatures warming up into the mid 50s.

Wednesday is expected to be Denver's warmest day of the week -- a nice improvement from Tuesday night, when temperatures dropped into the teens.

But as temperatures in the city are warming, a big storms system is expected to move into Colorado's mountains. A Winter Storm Watch is already posted for the high country for Wednesday afternoon through Friday.

Snow totals are forecast to range anywhere from 15-30 inches depending on the location. Some of that snow is likely to spill onto the Front Range and into metro Denver Thursday and Friday accumulation of 2-4 inches.

The weekend looks chilly in Denver with highs in the 30s.

The forecast for East Rutherford, N.J. and the Super Bowl this weekend calls for a chance of snow Saturday and Saturday night, but it looks dry for the game Sunday, with a temperature of about 32 degrees at kickoff.

Is it really too much to ask people to have adequate tires and use their headlights and turn signals?

    Winter comes every year.

    Sounds like a solid theory….

Stop leaving your brights on. We get it and we can see you just fine with your low beams on. And that jacket up 4wd with high beams and running lights that are brighter than normal lights, if you cannot see without all that extra-then stay home during rush hour and let working people drive without all that big…ego getting in the way.
