DENVER — For the first time in eight seasons, the Denver Broncos are back in the AFC Championship game after holding off the San Diego Chargers 24-17.

But the road to the Super Bowl doesn’t get any easier. Up next: Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. The game will be Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady, round 15, and it seems sure to be a good one.

Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. Monday morning, and they were sold out in less than 15 minutes. Tickets were only to those with a valid billing address in the Rocky Mountain region, including Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, South Dakota and Western Kansas.

Prices ranged from between $90 and $300 for reserved seats, and $300 to $600 for club seats. According to Forbes magazine, the average listing price on the secondary market for this game is $779, which makes it the most expensive AFC championship game in four years.

In the all-time series between Brady and Manning, Brady owns a two-game edge. They’ve met three times in the playoffs, and the winner has always gone to the Super Bowl. That will once again be the case this season.

But following Sunday’s win over the Chargers, Manning was already downplaying the significance of the rematch between the two all-time great quarterbacks.

“Tom Brady has been an outstanding quarterback for such a long time,” Manning said. “But the game next week is the Broncos vs. the Patriots.”

When the Broncos and the Patriots faced off earlier this season, the Broncos blew a 24-point lead and lost in overtime. This time, the conference title is on the line.

“We’re looking forward to getting another shot,” Broncos linebacker Shaun Phillips said. “Obviously we’re the best two teams in the AFC.”

But before that point, Manning and the Broncos said they would enjoy the win over the Chargers.

“The only thing on my mind?” Manning said in the wake of the win. “How soon I can get a bud light in my mouth after this win.”
