DENVER — The Denver Broncos thought they’d seen the last of Phillip Rivers this season, but the San Diego Chargers quarterback and bolo tie aficionado had other ideas.

After knocking off the Cincinnati Bengals 27-10 on Sunday, the Chargers are headed to Denver on Jan. 12 to fight for the divisional championship.

Few people saw it coming. A 6 seed with a 9-7 record, San Diego suddenly sprang to life late in the regular season. Even so, it took a total collapse by the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday to make next week’s least likely matchup possible.

Now, San Diego storms into Denver on a five-game winning streak. And let’s not forget that one of those wins was Dec. 12 at Sports Authority Field.

Elsewhere in the AFC, the Indianapolis Colts will head to New England on Saturday, while the NFC matchups will be the 49ers at the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints at Seattle.
