EB I-70 now open at Idaho Springs after semi catches fire

DENVER — Travelers headed east on Interstate 70 faced long delays Thursday morning after a tractor trailer caught fire near the Twin Tunnels.

CDOT reported the crash around 9:30 a.m.  By 1:45 p.m. the highway was reopened.

A tractor trailer carrying crushed cars rolled onto its side and caught fire, said Idaho Springs Police Chief Dave Wohlers.

I-70 was closed at Idaho Springs and drivers were detoured onto Highway 9  to U.S. 285 for several hours.

Travelers should be prepared for “extremely long delays.”
