RYE, Colo. — Authorities have named a suspect believed to have shot and killed three people and left them in a burning home in the rural town of Rye in southeastern Colorado.

An arrest warrant for Harry Mapps, 59, was issued Saturday on charges of identity theft, theft above $5,000 and forgery. He is also being considered the primary suspect in the deaths of three people, said Lisa Shorter of the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire at the home off Highway 165 started Wednesday. Firefighters called it “dynamic” and took several hours to put it down. It even flared up again the following morning Shorter said.

Thanksgiving Day, authorities recovered three bodies inside the home. They were identified as Reginald Tuttle, 51, Kim Tuttle, 55, and their daughter Dawn Roderick, 33, Shorter said.

Fire investigators determined the fire to be arson although the exact cause has not been released.

While interviewing family and friends, detectives learned that checks in the Tuttle’s name had been cashed in Pueblo and La Junta on the day of the fire. Surveillance video from one bank showed Mapps cashing one of the checks, Shorter said, leading to the arrest warrant.

“Harry Mapps is believed to be armed and dangerous and new bulletins have been sent to all local and national law enforcement outlets,” said Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor.  “It seems the victims were shot while they slept resulting in their death. It would appear the motive for the crime was financial and the evidence only leads to one person being involved in all necessary aspects of the crime and that is Harry Mapps.”
