DENVER -- The Thanksgiving weekend has been far from an ideal holiday for two Big Thompson Canyon residents. They and their home survived the floods several months ago but they’ve yet to get back their phone and internet service.
“This has been the Thanksgiving from hell actually,” said Bill Boege. “Most of it is because we don’t have a telephone.”
When water inundated the canyon almost three months ago, the Boeges’ utilities at their Drake home went out along with everyone else’s. Their power has long since been restored. Their phone and internet service has not.
“It’s incomprehensible,” said Eileen Boege.
Their frustrations reached the boiling point this week when their cat was attacked by a mountain lion and they were unable to call for help.
“If it had been him what would I have done?” Eileen Boege wondered, referring to her husband. “Hours, minutes would have mattered. The other thing is our children are all out of state and God forbid if there’s an emergency with one of them. How do they contact us other than maybe calling the State Police?”
The Boeges have complained to CenturyLink, their service provider, using a cell phone in an area that has cell service. Their town does not. Meantime, the company has charged them at least $400 for connections they don’t have.
“They are just totally cutting us off from everything,” Eileen Boege said. She said a number of her neighbors have not returned home since the floods because their phone service is out, too.
When FOX31 contacted CenturyLink, a company spokesperson said the provider was close to reconnecting remaining customers in Drake but are not quite there yet. The Boeges, who have called the Governor’s Office and the Better Business Bureau, said they have nowhere else to turn.
“We have no recourse, we are victims here,” Eileen Boege said, a dark computer screen just over her shoulder.AlertMe
