BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. -- Rescuers were responded to the scene of a plane crash in Boulder County where the pilot was confirmed dead, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday afternoon.

The small plane crashed into a field and creek east of Boulder in the area of N. 109th Street and Jasper Road. Officials said the pilot was 66-year-old David Biesemeier of Loveland.

Witnesses in the area described hearing strained engine noises and seeing parts from the aircraft, including the wing, fall off before crashing.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the plane was a Smyth Sidewinder experimental aircraft.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board arrived at the crash site later Wednesday afternoon.
