VAIL, Colo. — Four inches of fresh snow greeted skiers and snowboarders as Vail Mountain opened its slopes for the 2013-2014 ski season Friday.

The resort has more that 170 acres of terrain available for skiing, mainly in the Lionshead portion of the resort.

Closer to metro Denver, Eldora Mountain Resort in Boulder County also opened for the season Friday.

Two lifts at Eldora are running serving top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding on intermediate runs.
