EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. -- El Paso County Sheriff's deputies have arrested Kenneth Lankford, a suspect in Saturday's fatal Black Forest burglaries.

According to El Paso County Sheriff Sgt. Joe Roybal, deputies arrested Kenneth "Tex" Lankford on Sunday morning at about 7:15 a.m.

Terry Lankford, the suspect's wife, and Carol Fowler died in a pair of chaotic shootings north of Colorado Springs. Thomas Fowler, Carol Fowler's husband, was wounded and remains hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

Police were still determining the details of the shootings.

Sgt. Joe Roybal said deputies were searching for an armed man who allegedly stole a 2002 red Honda Odyssey with the license plate 048GJB following the incidents at two separate homes Saturday.

Roybal said deputies were continuing their investigation in the area around 2 a.m. Sunday, when they encountered a vehicle that failed to stop. After pursuing the vehicle, the man fled on foot at Hogden Road, east of Highway 83.

Deputies discovered that it was Lankford who fled the vehicle, and after searching the area Lankford was apprehended and arrested.

Lankford owned a house on Shoup Road that was destroyed in this summer's Black Forest fire. He also has a criminal record in three states.

The first burglary was reported Saturday morning on Timberline Court at about 8:30 a.m. The second burglary occurred on Burrows Road, however officials have not confirmed whether they are related.

El Paso County Sheriff's deputies blocked off Timber Lane at Howells Road while they investigated the scene. They also blocked off Burrows Road at Black Forest Road.
