Elderly man dies after wife allegedly beat him with hammer

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A man died Wednesday after his wife reportedly beat him with a hammer, Lakewood police said Thursday.

Police received a call about 10:50 a.m. Wednesday from a man who said his parents were engaged in a fight at their home in the 10500 block of West Warren Drive in Lakewood. The son reported that his mother was hitting his father in the head with a hammer.

Officers arrived to find Wallace Weigum, 83, suffering from severe head trauma. He was taken to St. Anthony’s hospital but later died of his injuries, police said.

His wife, 73-year-old Carol Weigum, was arrested on charges of first degree murder, police said.
