SAN FRANCISCO — The Denver Broncos defense put on a show against the San Francisco 49ers in the first preseason game of the new season Thursday night.

Denver won the game 10-6.

The Broncos “D” came up with four turnovers. One of them was a Shaun Phillips fumble recovery for a touchdown. It was the only touchdown scored during the game.

Peyton Manning played in just the first series. He went 2 for 4 in a drive that stalled at midfield. It ended on a 3rd down and 9 play where he got hit by a defensive player as he was throwing. Manning threw for 13 yards.

Backup quarterback Brock Osweiler got some good playing time. The offense didn’t score any touchdowns, but it was the first preseason game. Defenses are often a lot further along in their development than offenses at this point of the season.

The really good news is that the Broncos left San Francisco without anyone suffering any big injuries.
