DENVER -- The idea is simple. Buy a handful of scooters, and do like they do in foreign countries: rent them to tourists! Brilliant!

“We usually took our visitors on car tours of Denver when they came to town,“ said Jane Howard, owner of ScooTours Denver. “But we thought, how cool would it be to tour the city on two wheels you don’t have to pedal. "That is how all this got started.”

Three styles of 50cc scooters are for rent, one is a Honda Metro—very small and light, the mid-size is a People very quick two-stroke model, and then for the real riders the VX electric scooter… man that thing really goes and it’s stealth! No one hears you coming.

The rentals are done right outside Bubba Gump Shrimp on California Street between 14th and 15th Streets, across from the Convention Center.

Two hours costs $65, three hours is $85 and all day—until 8 p.m. $95. You request a scooter online or you can use Facebook, Twitter or by good old-fashioned land line telephone.
