Grandson of Weld County commissioner injured in ATV accident

DENVER – Parents of 3-year old boy injured in ATV accident may face felony child abuse charges, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Saturday, the child was brought to Children’s Hospital with serious injuries. The child is the grandson of Weld County Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer.

The mishap occurred in the area of 9709 Alkire Street in unincorporated Jefferson County near Standley Lake.

The family told investigators the boy was tossed from the ATV while riding with another person. Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the accident.
