PLAIN CITY, Utah — A Utah man was arrested Sunday outside a church after police said he got into a fistfight over seat saving in the pews.

Weber County deputies arrested Waybe Dodge, 51, after he allegedly got into an argument with another man over saving a seat at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Meadows Ward.

According to KSTU-TV, the church was unusually packed with more than 400 people in attendance for a missionary’s farewell and a baby blessing.

The argument continued outside the service to the parking lot where deputies said punches were thrown.

One man was even hit by a car although he was not seriously injured.

Dodge was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. He posted bail wand was released a short time later.

LDS Bishop Brett Ferrin told KSTU he was saddened by the fight.

“This is a place of worship,” he said. “The bottom line is we have to come back to church next Sunday.”
