Natura Pet Products expanded its pet food recall on June 18, 2013.

On Tuesday, Natura Pet Products expanded its voluntary pet food recall to include all Innova, Calif. Natural, EVO, Healthwise, Mother Nature and Karma branded dry pet food and biscuit/bar/treat products with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014 due to a positive salmonella test conducted by the FDA.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and the Georgia Department of Agriculture confirmed the presence of Salmonella in Natura products manufactured at the beginning of April, according to an Associated Press source.

In an official announcement on Natura’s website, the pet food company issued a recall on all of its dry pet food and treat products manufactured during the time period surrounding the Salmonella-positive products to avoid any further risks to the health of its feline and canine patrons. No canned wet food or biscuits are affected by this recall.

“Our decision allows us to ensure that all products available in the marketplace were produced after June 10,” the company stated on its website.

Pets infected with Salmonella may show signs like sluggishness, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite or abdominal pain. Even without these physical ailments, pets can still have Salmonella and potentially infect other animals or humans. Individuals with pets who have come in contact with these products should contact a veterinarian.

Humans handling contaminated pet products are also at risk of contracting Salmonella. People who have come in contact with any of the affected Natura products should monitor themselves for symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or fever. Contact a healthcare provider if any of these signs are present.

The affected products are sold through veterinary clinics and select pet specialty retailers nationwide and in Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and Costa Rica, as well as online.
