DENVER — A man in Ogden, Utah, was shot in the back of the head as he attended a church service Sunday morning.

Police arrested 35-year-old Charles Richard Jennings several hours later after he fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, according to

The shooting occurred just before noon. The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition, according to a press release from the Ogden Police Department.

There were no other injuries reported. Police said the victim is related to the alleged shooter by marriage.

“This was not a random act of violence,” police said in a statement. “The suspect was specific in the desired target and action.”

Police said Jennings held a man at gunpoint and stole a white 1996 GMC short-bed pickup truck after the shooting. He later abandoned the truck and was eventually captured.
