Traffic stop turns fatal in Fruita officer-involved shooting

FRUITA, Colo.,- A man died after fleeing from police in a traffic stop Saturday morning.

Three Fruita police officers pulled over a man near Hollyberry Street and Mesa Avenue around 1 a.m.

The driver, an unidentified adult male, attempted to run away from the officers when shots were fired. The suspect acted alone, and died on the scene. The cause of death is still under investigation.

A Critical Incident Team has been established, and the incident is under investigation because the shooting involved officers.

None of the officers were injured. It is unknown what initiated the traffic stop.
