DENVER -- Former preschool teacher David Moe pleaded guilty to one count of distributing child pornography Thursday.

Moe, 46, taught at Paddington Station in Denver for 18 years.

In federal court today, he admitted he had been receiving and distributing child pornography since 2000.   Moe told investigators he preferred to look at sexually explicit pictures of girls as young as four years old.

He faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in September.

Detectives found about 380 CDs as well as DVDs in his home. He was arrested in July.

"At least 800,000 child pornography/erotica images and over 13,000 child pornography/erotica videos were located on the defendant’s computers and computer media, including the video that had been made available to the undercover detective in May 2012," said US DA spokesman Jeff Dorschner.

Investigators said he kept detailed notes about his physical interactions with dozens of toddlers while he worked at the preschool. The notes are from an 800-page journal they found while searching Moe’s home in Denver.

Investigators say there is nothing overtly sexual in the journal, but there are details about Moe hugging, tickling and kissing toddler girls.  Investigators also found stained and rumpled sheets to a toddler bed or crib, although no such bed was found in Moe's home.

Court documents say Moe told investigators he collected and traded child pornography.

Paddington Station is closed this week and there was no comment from the school.  Several parents were at today's court hearing but did not want to comment.

“Predators who possess child pornography like David Moe, share their huge collections with other predators as if they were trading baseball cards, without any thought or care that each image represents a traumatized helpless child victim,” said Kumar C. Kibble, special agent in charge, HSI Denver.  “HSI’s ongoing Operation Predator initiative is an extremely active program targeting and pursuing prosecution for these callous criminals who sexually exploit children.”
