DENVER — A Denver Police motorcycle officer was hit on I-25 early Tuesday morning, damaging his motorcycle and causing two lanes of the interstate to shut down.

The accident took place in the northbound lanes of I-25 near the Alameda off-ramp at approximately 4:50 a.m. The officer was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation  but had no serious injuries.

Two lanes were blocked in the northbound direction of traffic as police cleaned up and investigated the scene. Traffic was delayed around 20 minutes in the area due to the work.

As of 6:30 a.m., all the lane closures had been lifted.

Several hours later, around 8:30 a.m., police took the driver of the vehicle that struck the officer into custody on suspicion of DUI.
