DENVER — Colorado Springs firefighters and the Division of Wildlife executed a daring rescue Sunday, safely wrangling a 200-pound black bear down from a tree in a residential area.

Firefighters used a ladder truck to reach the female bear, which had clambered high into a tree near Chelton Road and Claremont Street, the Colorado Springs Fire Department reported. The department began tweeting photos of the rescue around 7 p.m.

Responders tranquilized the bear before one brave firefighter secured it in a harness and lowered it to the ground.

The bear was not hurt, the department said.
