Getting ready for fire season in Northern Colorado

This is what we saw last year. Beginning in march with lower north fork to the end of December with Fern Lake: non-stop wildfires.

But thanks to two months of steady moisture, Northern Colorado has dramatically lower chances of fire right now.

Southern Colorado is ripe for a huge wildfire any day.

And because the state's been in long term drought. it will only take weeks of hot, dry weather here to push the danger up again.

And it pointed out gaping holes in the response time of getting crews. And valuable air support where they were needed.

The state's obtained more air support from the u-s forest service, with more firefighting resources around the state. And improved training and communication. With an emphasis on doing more to be ready.
