Driver of suspected stolen vehicle causes Thornton rollover

THORNTON, Colo. — A driver at the wheel of a suspected stolen vehicle tried to elude police in Thornton Thursday morning. The pursuit ended with a nasty rollover collision and the driver in custody.

According to Thornton Police spokesperson Matt Kandt, Thornton officers were to dispatched to assist the Northglenn Police Department with the rollover wreck at the corner of Washington Street and Thornton Parkway around 5:30 a.m.

After arriving on scene, the Thornton officers discovered that Northglenn officers had been pursuing the suspected stolen vehicle before the rollover occurred. An investigation showed that the pursuit ended when the driver of the suspected stolen vehicle ran a red light and collided with another vehicle in the intersection.

Following the wreck, the driver fled the vehicle on foot, furthering his attempt to evade officers. He was later taken into custody and was transported to a nearby hospital, along with the occupants of both vehicles involved in the rollover collision.

There was no word on the condition of any of those occupants as of 8:30 a.m.

Police will continue to investigate the wreck before deciding what charges will be filed against the driver of the suspected stolen vehicle. Anyone with information about this incident is being urged to contact Metro Area Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
