DENVER -- Both directions of Federal Boulevard were shut down in north Denver early Monday morning after a police chase ended with a van crashing into an auto repair shop.

The Colorado State Patrol said the chase began before 1 a.m. when troopers identified what they believed to be a stolen car. After a chase that spanned over 10 miles, the dark-colored van was traveling northbound on Federal when it plowed through a fence on the property of Gomez Auto repair, located at the corner of West 65th Avenue and Federal.

Police set up a two-mile perimeter around the crash, and as of 5:30 a.m., CSP said they believed the suspects were still at large. CSP said the suspects fired shots at troopers over the course of the chase, so they may still be armed.

Emergency notifications have been sent out to residents in the area as authorities search for the suspects, whose descriptions have not yet been given.
