DENVER — A 20-year-old student trying to cross a street without using a crosswalk was hit by a vehicle and killed near the University of Denver early Friday morning.

Denver Police confirmed the accident took place around 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of East Evans Avenue and South High Street, which is on the west end of the DU campus.

In a tweet, the Denver Police Department confirmed the victim was a 20-year-old man who “walked into traffic,” and that he was “pronounced dead at the scene.” The Officie of the Medical Examiner confirmed later in the day that the victim was Wilson King, a native of Winnetka, Ill. and student at DU.

Police also said the driver of the vehicle that hit King remained on the scene.
