DENVER -- More details are emerging in the case of a 20-year-old man who allegedly attacked a 15-year-old girl in her apartment Thursday afternoon.

Xavier Sebastian McDaniel allegedly broke into an apartment near South Simms Street and West Bowles Avenue in Littleton to commit the crime, according to a newly released case report from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, a stranger to the victim, walked into the apartment the victim shares with her mother through a closed but unlocked door, according to the report. He strolled through the rooms, asking the girl who she lived with, then ordered her to take off her shirt.

When she refused, he got angry and began shouting profanities, the victim said.

“Get ready to die,” he allegedly said at one point.

The man attempted to sexually assault the girl, but she fought with him for several minutes and the suspect eventually gave up and left. When officers arrived after the incident, the victim was crying hysterically and police noticed “visible injuries to her mouth, face and neck.”

The victim gave police a description of her attacker and said she saw him driving away in a white 1990s Jeep Cherokee. This information led police to McDaniel, who lives in the same apartment complex where the crime occurred. A police sketch of the attacker closely resembles McDaniel.

The suspect was arrested at his place of work in Douglas County, police said. McDaniel is being held in Jefferson County Jail without bond on suspicion of first degree burglary and attempted sexual assault causing serious bodily injury. FOX31 Denver has learned that McDaniel also has a pending misdemeanor case against him for sexual contact with no consent and harassment that he was set to appear in court for on April 10.
