One man dead, deputy shot following domestic dispute

DENVER — A Montrose County Sheriff’s deputy was shot and another man is dead after a domestic violence call near Crawford, the sheriff’s office reported.

Two deputies responded to the call around 1:49 a.m. Monday and met with a female at a house. When they knocked on the door of the building to speak with the male party, he fired two shots, hitting one of the deputies.

The deputy was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital for surgery. His condition remains unknown.

About 9:45 a.m., police breached the home and discovered one dead male inside. The scene has been secured and an investigation is under way.
