DENVER -- It seems like something out of a science fiction movie -- a cryogenic tank complete with smoking liquid nitrogen billowing from its lid. Inside the temperature drops to 300 degrees below zero, and it could be the best beauty treatment on the market.
Doctors at the Cherry Creek Spine and Sport Clinic say something called Whole Body Cryotherapy uses the cold to draw blood away from your extremities and closer to your heart, enriching your blood with more oxygen. The process gets rid of toxins and stimulates collagen, improving your skin, and reducing the effect of hormonal changes.
Doctors at Cherry Creek Spine and Sport also use the cryogenic treatments to help several members of the Denver Nuggets basketball team.
“Hot flashes it helps, it kind of resets your body," Dr. Ryan Tuchsherer says. "It's a computer that's not working right we restore it back to factory settings.”
Patients only spend up to 2 minutes in the deep freeze, which Denver mom Becky Conzelman says is quite manageable, “a little chilly kind of like when you're naked in the snow for about 30 seconds”.
Patients say there’s an added side effect: Many are losing weight burning calories almost as soon as they walk out of the office.
"Research shows 600 to 800 calories. Your body has to warm everything back up so it increases your metabolic rate,” Dr. Tuchshere says.
The sessions cost approximately $50 each, nine sessions are recommended. For more information you can visit http://www.cherrycreekspine.com.AlertMe
