DENVER -- Five people are in custody after a barricade situation near 2nd Avenue and Hooker Street that may be related to a shooting earlier Sunday, the Denver Police Department said.

The incident stemmed from a fight, police said. It was unclear which of the people in custody, if any, had fired shots. At least three people had hidden inside a home but surrendered peacefully.

The incident began when a person with a gunshot wound walked into a fire station around noon today seeking medical help, police reported. The victim was thought to have been involved in a shooting near Fifth Avenue and Knox Court. The injured party was transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

DPD then tweeted that officers were on the scene of a barricade situation related to the shooting in the area of Fifth Avenue and Julian Street. KDVR reporters on the scene watched as numerous people surrendered peacefully.

Officials were still investigating the series of events that led to the standoff Sunday night.
