NEW HOPE, Ala. (WHNT) — Six people lost their home early Friday morning when it caught fire. Once firefighters arrived and started working the fire, the home exploded.

WHNT’s Jeff Gray was on scene and caught the explosion on camera. An oxygen tank is what caused the fireball. Three firefighters were knocked to the ground and two of them were seen crawling away from the home.

Fire departments from New Hope and Owens Cross Roads responded to the home around 1:30 a.m. It is located on Highway 431, just South of Main Drive in New Hope.

A fire marshal on scene said the homeowner was cooking when a grease fire erupted in the kitchen. The fire spread quickly, but the family of six were able to make it out safely.
