ATLANTA, Ga. (CNN/WXIA) — Atlanta Police said a 14-year-old boy was shot at Price Middle School, near the Lakewood Heights neighborhood south of downtown Atlanta on Thursday afternoon.

According to WXIA, Atlanta Fire Department Capt. Marian McDaniel said there was a 14-year-old who had been shot in the head. Grady Memorial Hospital says they have received one under-aged gunshot victim and confirmed that the patient is in critical condition.

Though initial reports suggested the 14-year-old had been shot in the head, Atlanta Public Schools public information officer Steve Alford said the gunshot wound was more toward the back of the neck, and indicated that the boy was awake when taken to Grady Hospital.

The second person hurt was a teacher who may have been trampled in the confusion following the shooting. The teacher was also taken to Grady.

Alford said the shooting suspect was apprehended by police.  Campos said the suspect was tentatively identified as a student. Campos went on to say the shooting happened outside the school building.
