THORNTON – Three lanes of Interstate 25 were closed at 88th Avenue, after an oversized tractor-trailer struck an overpass bridge early Saturday morning.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, the vehicle struck the bridge at about 4 a.m.

Concrete did fall onto the highway, but no one was injured, according to CDOT.

Two northbound lanes and one southbound lane on I-25 were closed for most of the morning, but have since re-opened.

All lanes of 88th Avenue have reopened except for the right lane of westbound 88th Avenue.  The sidewalk on the north side of 88th Avenue will also remain closed until further notice. The right lane of westbound 88th Avenue and the sidewalk will remain closed until repairs to the bridge are made.

At this time, “It is unknown how long the closure will be in place as CDOT bridge engineers need to design the repairs and then CDOT will hire a contractor to complete the work,” said CDOT spokeswoman Mindy Crane.
