Burglar shoots, kills Ft. Carson soldier and his wife at their home

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police in Colorado Springs say a Fort Carson soldier and his wife were killed  when they returned home and encountered a burglary in progress Monday.

“The suspect shot both victims before fleeing the scene,” says Colorado Springs police spokeswoman Barbara Miller.

The victims are identified as Whitney Butler, 35, and David Dunlap, 37.

This happened at 222 Bassett Drive at about noon on Monday.

Miller says police interviewed a person of interest in the case but have not made an arrest. Detectives are actively seeking information and pursuing every lead.
