Shots were fired at a San Diego movie theater Saturday, but this time police stepped in to prevent a possible tragedy.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the shooting happened inside the Reading Cinemas in northern San Diego around 3:50 p.m.

Investigators said the gunman was hiding out in the theater after threatening his girlfriend in the parking lot.

Police started searching each movie theater, until they found the gunman in theater nine. An officer fired his gun after the suspect appeared to reach for his own gun, according to reports.

The man was shot in the torso, but is expected to survive. No one else was hurt during the incident.
