ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Two people were shot and one person was killed in a southwest Denver neighborhood on New Year’s Day. On Thursday, police confirmed they had tracked down and arrested a suspect that was initially at large.

Denver police spokesperson Raquel Lopez said officers took Robert Rubio into custody on Wednesday. The 25-year-old is accused of shooting Troy Anthony Martinez, 21, twice in the abdomen on Tuesday. Martinez eventually died of his injuries.

Rubio is being held on the charge of first degree murder.

Officers said Rubio also shot another man in addition to Martinez at 1044 S. Alcott Street shortly before 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday. The second wounded man sustained non-life threatening injuries.
