Erin Dilbeck, an Aurora, Colo. preschool teacher organizes fundraiser for Sandy Hook

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Erin Dilbeck is a preschool teacher in Aurora who decided she had to do something after watching the events of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut.

“I felt really, really helpless,” she says.

Not anymore.

Saturday morning, Jan. 5, Dilbeck has organized an event called “We Run for Sandy Hook.” It’s a 5K Run/Walk around the lake at Clement Park in Jefferson County. Find all the details here.

“We’re a state that has experienced this type of tragedy before and I knew I had to do something.”

Initially, Dilbeck posted the idea on Facebook.  A handful of supporters has turned into close to 400. The Boulder Running Company picked up on the posting and has offered to help in any way it can.

Clement Park is next to Columbine High School near Wadsworth and Bowles in the southwest part of metro Denver.

The 5K Run/Walk starts at 9 a.m.  A $25 donation is requested.
