COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — An armed man wanted on felony warrants in Colorado Springs led police on a wild high-speed chase before he was shot outside a convenience store in the southern Colorado town of Widefield.

Colorado Springs police say the man rammed into police vehicles and flew down the streets of the small town before they cornered him near a 7-Eleven. They had to cross their jurisdiction into El Paso County to do so.

When his vehicle was finally cornered, police say the man got out and started shooting.

There were several eyewitnesses in the area. Daniel Sandoval was one of them.

“We heard screeching tires and a car going behind the buildings,” Sandoval said. “Then we saw police cars behind them,” .

The man was traveling south on Highway 85 when police began the chase. They tailed him into the Security-Widefiled area, and watched as he tried to cut through a strip mall parking lot.

That’s when officers were able to box him in, according to Sandoval.

“They smashed the car into another car at 7-Eleven and right after that five cars were on him,” Sandoval said. “Gunfire started everywhere until the cops took him down.”

Police say the officer-involved shooting is now under investigation.
