2 killed in I-70 accident involving semi

A crash along I-70 near Deer Trail killed two people Dec. 20, 2012.

DEER TRAIL, Colo. — A driver and a passenger in a pickup truck were both killed in a crash that closed Interstate 70 on the eastern plains for several hours Thursday morning.

According to Colorado State Patrol spokesperson Josh Lewis, an emergency call reporting the accident was received at approximately 8:47 a.m. Lewis said the semi collided with a Nissan truck on the eastbound side of the freeway near Deer Trail.

The driver of the semi was not injured, Lewis said.

Eastbound I-70 was still closed at mile marker 329 for several hours, but reopened around 11:15 a.m.
