AURORA, Colo. – A man who carjacked an Aurora woman outside a King Soopers Monday night crashed her SUV and was sent to the hospital, police said.

The carjacking happened outside the store at Colfax Avenue and Chambers Boulevard around 7:45 p.m., said Aurora police spokesman Sgt. Cassidee Carlson.

A man wearing a scarf over his face pulled a woman from her maroon Ford Expedition and drove off, Carlson said.

About five minutes later police got a call of a crash at E. 26th Avenue and Altura Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found the Expedition and a man unconscious on the roadway, she said.

The 19-year-old was taken to a local hospital. His injuries are not yet known.

Investigators believe the man realized he was going to crash and jumped from the vehicle.

Carlson said when released from the hospital, he will face numerous charges.
