One dead after officer-involved shooting at Auraria Campus

DENVER – Yet another officer-involved shooting occurred Saturday morning, this time at Denver’s Auraria campus.

According to the Denver Police Department, the incident occurred at 6 a.m., near 9th and Walnut Street on campus.

Police said an officer was injured after a suspect stabbed him what they said appeared to be a samurai sword.  According to police, the officer fired his gun after the suspect stabbed him, killing the suspect. 

The police officer is in critical, but stable condition this morning. Police initially indicated that the officer's finger was nearly severed off by the suspect's sword. 

The Veteran’s Day 5K race that was scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. in the area is still going on as planned. The race is being rerouted around the crime scene, according to police.
