If you found a large amount of cash in the street, would you keep it or try to find the owner?

John Case found $1,500 in cash in an alley one morning on his way to work. He spent weeks trying to find the person who lost it. He knocked on the doors of the homes around the area where he found the cash.  He even posted it on Craig's List under lost and found. He eventually found the owner and returned the money.  John says that if he hadn't found the owner, he was going to donate the money to charity.
