GOLDEN, Colo. –The owners of a restaurant in Golden are left wondering how a fire destroyed the building in an early morning fire Sunday.

Golden dispatch said they received a call just after 1 a.m. Sunday from someone who saw smoke coming out of the roof of Tequila’s Mexican Restaurant on South Golden Road.

When firefighters arrived, they were unable to enter the building because the fire was centered on the roof, according to the Golden Fire Department.

“Crews had to cut through the building with chainsaws to try to access the areas on fire,” said Golden Fire spokeswoman Karlyn Tilley in a news release.

The cause of the fire, which took several hours to distinguish, is still under investigation.

There were no injuries reported.
