Aurora theater shooting, July 20, 2012

DENVER — Families of Aurora theater shooting victims intend to stop pursuing any agreement with the 7/20 Recovery Committee.

Sources tell FOX31 Denver reporter Justin Joseph the families will announce Thursday that they may pursue other options to get millions of dollars donated to a victims’ relief fund distributed.

The sources affiliated with the families say those options could include legal remedies but that no decisions have been made.

Sources tell Joseph that families learned this weekend the 7/20 Recovery Committee has no authority to distribute the money and the Community First Foundation is the only organization that can.

More than $5 million was raised on behalf of the victims following the massacre at the Century 16 theaters that killed 12 people and injured 58 others.

Much of that money was raised through the Community First Foundation’s website.
