DENVER — Police officers responded to a report of an armed, suicidal man at a west Denver residence Tuesday morning and ended up wounding the suspect after “the situation escalated.”

According to Denver Police, the officers responded to a report that a man had fired his gun inside a residence at 3415 West Colfax Avenue. The caller reported that the man was “suicidal.”

“When officers arrived on scene they contacted the man inside his residence and quickly established communication with him,” Denver Police spokesman John White said in a release. “Shortly thereafter, the situation escalated, which resulted in the suspect sustaining a gunshot wound.”

Police said the man was wounded in the hand and arm and transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police are investigating the incident.
