Explore Colorado: Ouzel Lake Hike
Jennifer Broome takes us to Rocky Mountain National Park for a hike up to Ouzel Lake.
With 355 miles of trails, Rocky Mountain National Park is a hiker’s haven. There are trails that take you to incredible waterfalls and alpine lakes.
The Wild Basin Area in the southeast corner of Rocky Mountain National Park is a excellent spot to see some of those waterfalls and lakes. This high mountain valley is dotted with lakes and surrounded by peaks of 13 thousand feet or higher on the north, south, and west sides. It also is not as crowded as the very popular Bear Lake area.
The Ouzel Lake Trail will take you by several waterfalls including Calypso Cascades and Ouzel Falls as you make your way along the 4.9 mile trail to Ouzel Lake.
The Wild Basin Entrance in approximately 19 miles south of Estes Park on Highway 7.
After your hike, head in to Estes Park. There are many great restaurants and shops on Elkhorn Avenue, Estes Park’s main street. Many, like Ed’s Cantina, offer a casual atmosphere that is perfect for your post hike celebration.AlertMe
